Tried everything!
I can't get Flash 9 to work.
I changed all the security settings like it said.
I uninstalled whatever was already on my computer with the proper Adobe Flash
Uninstaller.
I got the latest version of IE.
....I've run out of things to try!!
Everytime I" try to downoad it, it prompts me to run or install or whatever, I
click on it, a little gree and silver bar moves and it appears to be working
for a second, the the completion page loads up....It says something about "when
you see the sucsessful completion movie below blah blah"..but I get no movie
or confirmation message and sites with Flash dont work.

Re: Tried everything!
I'm not sure if we have the same problem here, but whenever I try to install
the flash player and click the 'Install' button, I get the same message that
you described. Instead I get this blank square with an 'x' at the top-left
corner... So if there's anyone who can help then please do, ' cos this thing is
driving me nuts...

Re: Tried everything!
Hello Bentley,
Please help because I am also suffering a similar problem on my new Sony Vaio
with Vista.
When I am visiting new websites I am also getting blank boxes with red x's in
the corner, is this linked to thr problem below?
But my main problem is also downloading flash player, I have been trying now
for two days. I have follwed all the instructions, looked at every self help
troubleshooting link on the Adobe website and changed my active X controls but
I just cannot download Flash player. I am the administrator of my computer so
that cannotbe the issue either.
When I get to the Adobe Flash Player Download Centre - Windows, there is just
nowhere to click to proceed with the installation, just the instructions about
installation, the red arrow that says about if the info bar appears above the
next page etc. etc. and the 4 steps of installation and security warning thing.
How can I proceed with the installation from this point?
I greatly appreciate your help with my frustrating dilema.
Thanks.

Re: Tried everything!
Hi Mark Anthony,
What are your Security Internet options set to? If it is set to high you may
prevent the Flash Player installation.
You can check this by selecting Tools > Internet Options > Security.
In addition, here are Instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash
Player:
First download the uninstaller to your desktop from here
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
Before running this uninstaller be sure to read the instruction and close all
running programs.
Open the following folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
Run the uninstaller
What files are left in this folder? C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
If there are files left, delete the Flash folder.
Install the Flash Player from here: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
Test the Flash Player here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/
If the Flash Player did not install properly, there may be a permissions issue
within your Windows Registry. Please login as the Administrator (NOT a User
with Admin privileges) and follow these instructions to open the registry.
Warning: The following solution involves the Windows System Registry. Editing
or manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious system damage
which may require re-installation of the operating system. If you are not
comfortable editing the registry, then take your system to a professional. If
you choose to proceed, then it is essential that you create a complete system
backup and a Windows System Restore Point before proceeding. Adobe Systems
cannot be held responsible for damage resulting from this information.
1. Select Start > Run
2. Type in ?regedit?
3. Right click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
4. Select Permissions
5. Select Advanced
Take a screenshot of the Advanced Security Settings for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and
reply to this email with the attachment. You can take a screenshot by pressing
the ?Print Screen? button on your keyboard. This will copy your screen as an
image. Open the Paint program by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories >
Paint. Paste the image into Paint by using the Ctrl-V key combination. Save the
file as a JPEG. Select File > Save As > JPEG. Please reply to this email with
the image file as an attachment.

Re: Tried everything!
Hello McNast.
Thanks for you reply. I have followed your instructuctions to the letter for
uninstalling and reinstalling flash player. I set my internet security to
medium as you suggested. Unfortunately I am still stuck with exactly the same
problem. When I go to the flash download centre, there is just no icon to
click on to start the download!!
I now have uninstall_flash_player, and install_flash_player_active_x in my
downloads file. And I have a "flash" file under macromedia in my system32
thing which contains four items (Flash9c.ocx, FlashUtil9c, Restart and
RestartIE)
I tried the test link that you sent me, it comes on screen but doesn't do
anything, sometimes it says "error on page" at the bottom left.
I also tried -
www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_15507 - 24k but no movie
is displayed.
I am a bit wary of changing the system registry as I am quite new to all this.
My Vaio is new so I would have thought that this drastic measure would not be
needed. Please help if you can because I am determined to overcome this bloody
annoying problem!!
Thanks again.

Re: Tried everything!
Hi Mark Anthony,
I completely understand, that is why we include this warning:> "I am a bit wary of changing the system registry as I am quite new to all
> this."
Warning: The following solution involves the Windows System Registry.
Editing or manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious
system damage which may require re-installation of the operating system. If
you are not comfortable editing the registry, then take your system to a
professional. If you choose to proceed, then it is essential that you create
a complete system backup and a Windows System Restore Point before
proceeding. Adobe Systems cannot be held responsible for damage resulting
from this information.
However, I am not asking you to change anything in the system registry, only
compare your permissions with the ones in this screenshot. If you feel up to
it, please reply with any differences that you see.
