Default Tried Installing Breezy To 6.06 LTS

I tried updating Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy) to 6.06 LTS using the following
command gksudo "update-manager -d" and following the directions on web
page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperUpgrades

I then rebooted my maching. The new graphical startup screen displayed
and various drivers and processes being loaded and started. Then my
monitor just went dark. I think it lost the video signal. I have an
ATI 9600 Series video card and a ViewSonic G810-2 monitor. I would
think this is fairly standard equipment so I couldn't see what the
problem would be, especially when so many people on these groups have
already upgraded to 6.06. Has anyone else had this problem? And is
there anything I can do to overcome it? Will I be able to install the
released 6.06 version with no video problems?

I tried 3 times to upgrade 5.10 to 6.06 - finally I gave up
why ? lots of new settings specially for X - now it is 7.0 and completely
new configuration
changing xorg.conf is not a big deal but as 7.0 is modular and installing
itself in completely new folders I made a decision to ... install 6.06
again - I did not have too many problems as my /home is on other partition

I don't mean it is impossible to upgrade - there are advantages and
disadvantages of installing again (more clear system etc)

regarding xorg.conf it is clearly described on ubuntuforum how to change
it to make it working but make the decision yourself what would be more
suitable for you
