    Marc,

Is there some reason you are not using the native JDBC drivers for your SQL
databases? Less middleware might mean fewer problems.

I know the above doesn't help solve the immediate (what sounds to me like a
network config) problem. But I think it is pretty clear that if you cannot
telnet to the ports that the ODBC service is using via localhost, then your
    server is configured incorrectly.

Sorry, I don't have a solution, but I am having the same problem on Windows
2003 server trying to create a data source with ODBC socket for a DSN to an
Oracle database. I have the same setup on another server (development) working
fine but can't get this one (production) to work. I've tried some work arounds
found on Macromedia's support pages including adding 127.0.0.1 to the Local
Intranet sites on I.E.; deleting the trace files; re-installing the CF
services, etc. but nothing is working. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

By the way, I ended up having to reinstal ColdFusion in order to fix the
problem. The only thing I did differently the second time around was install
on C instead of D and I chose the web sites for Cold Fusion instead of
    assigning to all web sites.
