Troubleshooting locked files
Troubleshooting locked or un-publishable files in Contribute.
Only perform these steps if you have your log in details or connection key as
these steps will delete any prove of previous connections in Contribute.
1. Click on Start Run. Then type in regedit. Click start or enter.
In the registry editor navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe/Contribute

or HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Macromedia/Contribute 3
Depending on your version of Contribute.
2. Right click on the Contribute 4/3 folder and choose to rename it. Rename it
to Contribute 4.1 or Contribute 3.1
3. Close the registry editor.
4. Within Windows Explorer navigate to
C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME]\Application Data\Adobe
And rename the folder Contribute 4 into Contribute 4.1
For Contribute 3 this should be
C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME]\Application Data\Macromedia
And rename the folder Contribute 3 into Contribute 3.1
5. Within Windows Explorer navigate to
C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME] \Local Settings \Application
Data\Adobe
And rename the folder Contribute 4 into Contribute 4.1
For Contribute 3 this should be
C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME]\Local Settings\Application
Data\Macromedia
And rename the folder Contribute 3 into Contribute 3.1
6. If you cannot see these folder.
In the top menu bar of Windows Explorer click on Tools>Folder Options. In the
new dialog that pops up go to the view tab in the top and look for the option
Hidden Files and Folders. Tick the option ?Show Hidden Files And Folders?
7. Contact you website Administrator to remove any and all .LCK files from the
web server directories.
8. Re create your connection in Contribute.
When in the Edit>My Connections>New Connection/Add, wizard. Be sure that when
on the page with FTP server settings to click on the Advanced Button. In this
new Settings Pop Up Box change the settings to ?manually configure These
Settings?. Then tick on the Passive FTP option and tick of the Use Optimized
FTP.
Changing these settings will reduce the risk of getting un-published or locked
files.
9. After recreating the connection try editing and publishing the files again.

hey Martin, I just found this thread. I've been fighting the LCK Files for a
couple of years now, using Contribute 3. Every time I go to Edit a Page, a lck
file is put on my server. I also get lck files for almost every image I've put
up. Really aggravating to say the least!
I need to ftp to my site real quick otherwise I can't publish.
Is what you outlined above a real fix for this problem?? I've contacted Adobe
support by phone now maybe three times and they haven't had any solution for me.
