Default Trying to get smart quotes or "curly" quotes

I've searched forums and help to no avail. How do I ensure that the quote marks I get displayed are smart quotes, in other words the curly kind instead of the improper hash marks.

I set up a style sheet with times new roman for the font and any new text I create has them...but if I paste text into dreamweaver from word or anywhere else, it puts hash marks, even if I assign the style to the text.

if word shows curly quotes then pasting into DW should work (in current
version).
there is no smart quotes feature in DW so hitting the ' key will only give
you a ' - to get proper quotes use <alt> (windows) or option+[ (mac). or
insert>special chars.

note: only DWMX will properly encode the quotes this way.

this in on my Word '97 and someone elses Word 2000) and they have it set for
smart quotes, and it shows up that way in word....but when you paste it into
Dreamweaver, it goes to the " code, which is hash marks! Finding and
replacing these is a pain in the butt.
