Re: Turning off Check in / Check out feature
I'm not sure you can turn off check in check out with Contribute. When the file
goes to Edit mode it automatically checks out and when the file is published it
is automatically checked in. I might be missing something. Why would the user
want to turn it off? Maybe that would help to better understand the need.

Re: Turning off Check in / Check out feature
In Contribute you can't turn off the "Check In/Check Out" functionality. By
it's very nature Contribute is a multi-user system, and as such the Check
In/Check Out functions ensure that multiple users can't edit the same page
simultaneously.
If the real problem is that you need to be able to use multiple computers to
edit the site without publishing all the changes in between machine changes,
then you need to send the partially completed drafts to yourself for review
before changing machines.
Drafts are stored locally on the machine that was used to create them.
Sending them to yourself for review will allow you to switch machines in the
middle of an editing session if needed.
