two questions - Mac Applications & Software

I'll be brief: 1) Why the <expletive deleted> does mail.app in OSX put new windows up offset to the right of the screen just enough to hide the <expletive deleted> scroll bar? 2) Why the <even nastier expletive deleted> is my Microsloth Wireless Intellimouse Explorer suddenly jumping the <expletive deleted> cursor willy-nilly all over the <expletive deleted> screen? Especially considering I just changed the <expletive deleted> batteries? I'll be brief:

    1) Why the <expletive deleted> does mail.app in OSX put new windows up
offset to the right of the screen just enough to hide the <expletive
    deleted> scroll bar?

    2) Why the <even nastier expletive deleted> is my Microsloth Wireless
Intellimouse Explorer suddenly jumping the <expletive deleted> cursor
willy-nilly all over the <expletive deleted> screen? Especially
considering I just changed the <expletive deleted> batteries? (Note:
it's done this kind of thing before from time to time, but only
briefly, never to the point, as now, where I was ready to throw the
damn thing across the room, and did in fact pull the batteries and go
back to my standard Apple corded mouse.)

Does anyone else in your workspace have a Microsoft Wireless mouse?

Two of our researchers, with desks in close proximity, had identical
wireless mice. When both were at their desks, both had bouncing cursor
problems. The guy who figured it out went back to a Logitech corded
optical mouse, and all the problems ended; we gave the cordless mouse to
someone with space much further away, and it's worked out fine for him.

    Simple answer: no.

More accurate answer: what workspace? (I'm retired. There's only one
wireless device in here - well, two, if you count the transmitter).

I still would not be surprised if some other radio signal in your area is
causing the interference. It might be something as simple as a fan motor in
your home's HVAC or something a neighbor uses occasionally...

Maybe just a dirty lens, which causes weird reflections?
I have heard stories that optical mice can be confused by certain
surfaces as well, but I assume you use it on the same surface you always
    did...

That could be. I just put new batteries in the thing, and it's working
    fine right now.
