Type Tool (Stupid question....) - Adobe Illustrator Windows

Hi, If you start typing text by clicking anywhere with the type tool, the text will not wrap, it will continue straight forward. I would like to then select this text and resize the text box into a particular size but I do not want Illustrator to change the size and shape of my text.... How do you accomplish this? Thanks for your help! :-) L....

    Luke:

You are making point text. To make area text either click drag a box with the Type tool or make a shape (e.g. rectangle) and click it with the Area Type tool. steve

...... So with Illustrator you must think differently than when using InDesign when typing text since in ID, you can resize the text box without the type being reshaped... In other words, you must "plan" where and how big the shape of your text box. Then you can play with its shape afterwards, correct?

Yes if you want a text container. I mostly use point text to label things and rarely use area text. steve

In ID, there is an empty box on the right hand side of the text box that you can double-click to resize the text box to exactly fit the size of the text inside the box. So, if I create an area text, you drag a rectangle, type in the text and voilą! But if I made my box to big and want it to fit neatly around the text, is there a way to do this automatically?

    Thanks,
