    Default Ubuntu and boot drive

    Can Ubuntu be installed on a external (USB) drive and be selected in the
    boot process.

    i.e Internal HD is C: Windows XP and the external HD is D: (USB) Ubuntu?

    does your BIOS allow booting from USB ? if so then it should not be a
    problem
    other possibility is to set up /boot partition on internal and all others
    on usb (kernel starts and mounts usb)
