Unable to create PDF file when certain pictures are embedded in the word document

Very interesting problem.

I'm running a windows 2000 computer with office 2000. My client has a word document which has some imbedded bar charts in it. In a later version of the document, when those charts are removed, I can use distiller and create a PDF file with no problems. However in the documents with the bar charts in them distiller will fail every time.

My client is unsure where the charts came from. She got the file in an email from someone else. The look like imbedded pictures. Anyways, I scanned your forums and did not see something similar and I was wondering if any of the adobe gurus on this site were aware of something that may be causing a problem like this.

What error does Distiller give you?

I don't know if there's an easy way to tell if an already-embedded image is an EPS or not.
