Re: unable to download flash player
I have been working for several hours trying to get this adobe macromedia
flashplayer 9. Nothing I do works. I've done everything recomended in the
support section of this website, and non of it works. The security settings
are fixed. I've changed it so my user is the only administrator on the
computer. I've uninstalled the previous versions of the flashplayer from the
computer. Nothing will work.
However yesterday after figuring out how to change the user to an
administrator, I downloaded the flashplayer onto the other user on this
computer. However it would work on my user then. So then I went to get it
onto my user. This didn't work. So I figured that maybe it wasn't working
because it was installed on the other user. So I deleted it from that user,
and tried to then get it onto my user. Didn't work. But then I couldn't even
get it back onto the other user when I went to see if I could do that. This
adobe macromedia flashplayer is nothing but trouble. However, I need to do so
many things on the computer. I am ready to scream.

Re: unable to download flash player
I can install Flash Player directly from the web site into Internet Explorer,
but I want the plug-in for Firefox. The downloaded installer simply will not
open-- the system stalls for about 15 seconds when I double click the
installer, then nothing.:confused;

Re: unable to download flash player
Quoting mmaclellan on another post on this forum:
[Q]If the above does not work, please ensure that you are running the
installation as admin or as user with full permissions. If you are
running on a restricted
account, you may need to edit your system registry and allow certain
entries to make Flash player work.

This might be related to your problem.

Re: unable to download flash player
Hi, Cynthia,
No, I'm afraid I haven't solved this problem yet, though I've spent several
hours trying. I have tried a number of things without success. What I
discovered is that the installer is placing the files in the correct folders in
Firefox, but still Flash doesn't work. Also, the installer does not seem to
work for IE6, either-- I can make Flash work on IE6 after going to a website
that requires Flash (eg, asus.com) and prompts an alert that asks whether I
want to install the plug-in. When I allow the installation, Flash words
immediately in IE6. So... I'm not sure what's going on! Let me know if you
have any clues.

Re: unable to download flash player
Hello Cynthia et al.,
I solved the problem on my machine.
First, after running the installer, go to Program Files>Mozilla
Firefox>Plugins and make sure the Shockwave Flash file called NPSWF32.dll is
there, then go to Program Files>Mozilla Firefox>Components> and make sure
FlashPlayer.xpt is there. I believe those two files in those locations are the
critical components.
My installation was ok, though the installer behaved almost as though nothing
had happened.
It turned out that an extension called "Adblock" wasn't allowing the browser
to show the Flash content. To disable this extension, go to
Tools>Add-ons>Extensions and select it, click disable (if you have it).
To find out whether anyextension may be the problem, close Firefox,
then go to Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox and click on <Mozilla Firefox
(Safe Mode)>. This will start the browser without the extensions. If your
Flash content works, then one of the extensions is the problem, and you need to
restart Firefox and disable the extensions one at a time
(Tools>Add-ons>Extensions>) until you find out which one is guilty.
Good luck. Let me know whether this helped.
jd
Good luck.

Re: unable to download flash player
Wow, I am in awe!!! I been having the problem of not being able to view sites
that use Flash Player contents. Well I can now ...how awesome is that. This
problem has plague me for over a year!!
I opened a 'Web Case' with Adobe and they emailed me the solution in a PDF
file. It worked!!! How cool is that!!!
I hope I don't get into any trouble posting the solution here. But I know how
furstrating it can be trying to solve an unsolvable problem. But this is what I
did.
Before I started this process, I went to Microsoft
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756 and used "Guide Help" to back-up my
registry. It was simple and easy as it does it for you. Then I followed these
steps provided by Web Player Installation Support Adobe Systems:
The Flash Player may fail to install successfully due to permissions
issues with in your registry. There had been a number of users that ran
a script called 'reset.cmd' and this has resolved these permission
issues in the
registry and allowed for a successful installation of the Flash Player.
Warning: The 'reset.cmd' is not an Adobe program. Adobe Systems cannot
be held responsible for damage resulting from running this script. The
'reset.cmd' script involves the Windows System Registry. Editing or
manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious system
damage, which may require reinstallation of the operating system. If you
are not comfortable editing the registry, then it's best to take your
machine to a professional. If you choose to proceed, it is essential to create
a
complete system backup and a Windows System Restore Point before
proceeding. Adobe Systems cannot be held responsible for damage
resulting from this 'reset.cmd' script.
1. First attempt to install the Flash Player from here:
http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
2. Even if the Flash Player does not install correctly, the registry
keys needed should be generated
3. Open a web browser and paste in the following location
4. http://www.donglefree.com/reset.zip
5. Download the file to your desktop
6. Close out all applications
7. Run the 'reset.cmd' script
8. It will open a DOS like terminal and start running through your
registry keys
9. When the script is finished it will display "press any key to
continue"
10. Test the Flash Player here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome
Once I got to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome, I clicked the installed
Flash Player button and it worked!!!
I hope this solution works for everyone who has this problem!
