Unable to make PDF with Acrobat 6.0.4 under OS 10.4.5

I am reposting here, in the hope that someone can help me with this.

Still using OS 10.4.5, reinstalled Acrobat & updated to 6.0.4. Finally, for a month or two it seemed to work fine, consistently, but again, when I go to "print" to Adobe PDF printer (to make a PDF), either Word (2004- ver. 11.2) crashes, or the Adobe PDF printer launches- appears in the toolbar- then disappears, but no PDF is created.

I restarted, I launched Acrobat & tried Help>Detect & repair, repaired permissions, deleted AdobePDF.app & let Acrobat reinstall it, but I still can't make a PDF from a Word document.

I tried to manually launch Distiller, and open the file- same problem, but it created a log file as well:

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: –œ ‡°± · ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

Does this mean something to anyone?

As I said, I could finally get it to work consistently, but all of a sudden, without a thunderclap or anything, I can't!

Any suggestions?

Would upgrading to Acrobat 7 solve this problem?

This means, Distiller can only open PostScript files. Normal message
if you try to open anything else.

That probably isn't relevant to your other serious problem.
