"Unable to open file for writing" - Acrobat PDF issue?

Is anyone else getting the error message "Acrobat PDF file Format is having difficulties. Unable to open file for writing. It may be locked or unavailable" when trying to save an ai file?

I'm running Windows XP and using Illustrator 10.0.3. I'll open an already existing file (doesn't matter if it's located on the network or on my personal PC) and start working on it. I might be able to do a "File/Save" one or two times on it, but then after that I almost ALWAYS receive the error message above and can no longer save over the old file. I have to do a "Save as" at that point and end up with several versions of the file I'm working on. (btw, I always uncheck the option for "Create PDF Compatible File" when saving - does this matter?)

I'll then close the file, and when I try to delete the previous version(s) I get the error message "Cannot delete 'filename': It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." I've closed Illustrator and it doesn't make a difference. Same error message. I've gone to my Task Manager and I end proccess "AcroTray.exe" or anything Acrobat related. Still nothing. I can only delete or rename those locked files if I reboot my computer. And that's not always guaranteed.

I have the full Acrobat 4.0 on my machine as well.

Can ANYONE help me with this incredibly annoying problem? Would be MUCH appreciated!
