Unable to select or crop - Macromedia Freehand

Hi, I am new to Freehand. I am running it on a PC. I am just trying to select a portion of an image and crop it out of the main image. (With the intent of pasting it on another image). I can't get the selection tool to "stick" It draws the line (I am using the lasso) but it won't stay. I have looked in help and it doesn't seem to address this. Thanks, Sg :o...

Is this a placed bitmap you are trying to crop? Or are these vectors
you've drawn in Freehand? If the former then you can select the whole
image, not part of it. To crop it you'll have to draw a shape in the
form of the crop you want to make and position it where you want it on
the image. Then cut the image, select the crop shape and select "paste
inside" to put the image inside the crop shape.

It sounds like you are trying to use the FH lasso tool as it would work
in Photoshop, makes sense. But they are different tools and work
differently. In FH there is no selection area like in Photoshop. Since
there are no pixels in FH as in Photoshop you don't select areas you
select objects. The Lasso tool will allow you to select multiple
objects by surrounding the ones you want and weaving around the ones you
don't want. An easier way to select objects is to simply use the
selection tool (black pointer) and shift clicking on each object you
want to include in your action. You will also not be able to select
parts of objects as in Photoshop an object in FH is either selected or
not selected, although you can select individual or multiple points
within an object and get a similar effect. Use the option key to break
into objects and select individual points.

Illustration/vector applications are a whole different way of thinking.
It will take a bit of getting used to.
