Unable to set template properties

Default Unable to set template properties

I get the error "Unable to set template properties" when trying to edit the
template properties using Contribute. I click template properties in the
yellow bar and get that message.

I am able to edit the template properties on the page using Dreamweaver but my
users need to be able to do it in Contribute.

This happens with pages based on nested templates. If the page is built from
the core template then it allows the template properties to be edited.

This is extremely frustrating and I'm tried everything I can think of. I
started from scratch and created a basic page with one optional region and
nested it with pass-through so I could edit the parameter and I get the same
    issue.

Please help my users are needing this ability.

I'm really hoping someone from Adobe can answer this because there is virtually
nothing on the web involving this error message. I have seen others saying
they have seen it before but no solutions to be found.

I'm at a loss for why I can?t get it to work. Seems that is the whole point
of template parameters is to make them editable to users in Contribute so they
can control aspects of the template.

I am also unable to create new pages from the template because of this error.
I get the message saying the template has an error contact your admin (which is
me of course) so I am really stuck.

I have spent two days building and rebuilding this page trying everything I
can think of. It's very frustrating. This is a large site so I am worried
what problems this is going to create since people cannot create new pages
using Contribute. Dreamweaver works fine but I am the only one using
    Dreamweaver.

    This may render Contribute useless.

I don't know if I can provide you with the answer, but I can give you something
    to consider.

    1. The error-message you get, "Unable to set template properties", is the
same that you get when a page is not or wrongly asssociated with a template.
    2. Have you uploaded all the templates?
    3. Have your users 'refreshed' the templates when creating a new page?

To my knowledge what you are trying is possible in Contribute, I mean to use
items that can be adjusted in Contribute using template properties. Even in
    pages based on nested templates.

Furthermore, are you able/allowed to post the template(s) you are using, so we
can try to find a solution on the forum?

Yeah I knew to make sure the templates were all uploaded and refreshed them
every time I tried something new.

The problem seems to be fixed now and I'm still not sure why or how. I wish
the error code actually gave some feedback. I did about everything you can
imagine. I verified the code on the page to make sure there were no errors,
checked the template syntax, ..etc?etc? even stripped it down to just a basic
HTML test page with just one template parameter and editable region. Nothing
    worked.

But suddenly I notice everything works with no clear answer as to why.

One thing I did discover is do not put in a comment tag with "-----" in it or
it will break you page in Contribute. That was another problem I was having in
when I would edit a page in Contribute it was be a jumbled mess when published.
I removed the commented "----" tags that I used to separate elements in the
page and problem solved. ( I replaced it with commented ?######? instead)

It didn?t cause a problem in Dreamweaver or course.

These error messages need to have a bit more detail or at least worded
something other than "Unable to set template properties" or ?template error?
