Just use the installer to remove your products. Easy it is not?
Why on earth do you want to reinstall? Linux isn't wins!

    Yes, rm -r $ORACLE_HOME

the rm method will not update the inventory. Hence you will be in deep
    when reinstalling.

    I made a boo boo, I said I had installed 8i...
I haven't. It is sitting idly and uninstalled
    on my hard drive.
I can't get the runInstaller to execute.
Instead, I want to remove all the files I have
downloaded and start all over again, with 9i....

    Sorry for the confusion.
