Unknow error (-108) on launch

I am having troubles with Illustrator CS, I am unable to launch the programme, which haven't been a problem before now. (Sep 2003- may 2004)

Trying to launch the Illustrator "flower" is on screen and counting, then after a while a windows allertbox appears with the message:
" An unknown error has occurred (-108). Adobe Illustrator will now quit".

I haven't installed new programs since before last good use of the programme. I have tried to uninstall and re install, first the single programme and now the full Creative Suite. neither has helped.

Any suggestions?

Computer data: Amilo computer 40 GB HD, pentium 4, Windows XP home edition.

Does it freeze while loading fonts? (details at the bottom of the splash screen)

Have you tried deleting your prefs? (don't know if that will help)

I have tried to rename the aiprefs (aipref.old) and now the system error alert occurs imidially when I try to start Illustrator?
