Unpacking a column - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

With a number table, you can do: SELECT id, SUBSTRING(Descr, Nbr + 1 , CHARINDEX( ' ', Descr , Nbr + 1 ) - Nbr - 1 ) FROM (SELECT id, ' ' + Descr + ' ' AS Descr FROM tbl) t INNER JOIN Numbers ON SUBSTRING(Descr, Nbr , 1) = ' ' WHERE Nbr BETWEEN 1 AND LEN(Descr) - 1 ; Otherwise you have to resort to a cursor/looping logic. The best option is to do it on your client application, though. -- - Anith ( Please reply to newsgroups only )...

I know the best option would be to do it on a client application with a more
flexable language like VB, C#, C## or C++. However we need to put this into
a trigger so that we can get the keywords indexed as soon as the record in
    inserted.

Sounds like you should consider full-text indexing.
