Unwanted grey shading printout - why? - Adobe Illustrator Windows

Using Illustrator CS 2 under winXP. On a layer, I have a photoshop drawing with a tranparent background. I then place this in an Illustrator doent where som text and forms are added. When I print on my HP Laserjet 5100, I get this light grey box behind my Photoshop file... Why is that? Thanks, Luke...

Do you get the same problem if you print the image directly from Photoshop?

    Hi Len,

I printed the image directly from PS CS2 and had no problems...

Does this have anything to do with flattenning? I have tried printing the file with my other printer: Hp Color Laser jet 5550 PS and the result is fine. However, I don't like to use this printer for cost reasons. My file is B/W not color.

    thanks!

Did you place a .psd file? If so have you tried placing an .eps with clipping mask?

I placed a PSD file. I will try your suggestion. Where do I place the clipping mask? In Photoshop?

I just bought Illustrator CS 2 and it is now giving me nightmares! Whenever I place a PSD file with transparency in a doent, the printout contains a grey box! It did not give me this when I was using Illustrator CS..............

Please tell me how to print my doents!

    Many thanks!

    Luke,

First of all make sure BOTH applications are using the same CMS
settings. Do this by going to Photoshop's Edit>Colour preferences and
SAVE your current settings to a colour settings file (.CSF) to the
    default location.

In Illustrator's Edit>Colour Settings d/box LOAD the .CSF file you just
    saved.

    Len,

Just tried that and I still get a grey box! How come with Illustrator CS I did not get that and now with CS 2, I get that.....
