Often, when I start PS 7.0.1 - or any previous version, for that matter - Adobe tried to download updates, but they won't take, and I get a message about checking network settings. The settings seem fine - what gives?

set your prefrences to never check for updates. (edit> online prefrences) look at the adobe site manually or watch this forum for announcements. lots of people have problems w/online update (espicially if there's a firewall involved).

AND the information about an update is available here several days before the "update" program finds it.

Yes, true. I heard about one here and found it. I ran update to download and install it with the least effort. Update did NOT have it showing as available.
