Update links? Yes or no?
- I'm working in a site.
- I open an .html file from somewhere else (ie outside the current site)
- I want the .html file in the current site
- I hit Save As, and save into the relevant folder in the current site
- I get the "update links?" dialog.
Assuming all links in the HTML file are relative, do I want to update or not?
What is being updated?

Re: Update links? Yes or no?
You should not "update links" in this case, because though the file will be
saved within your site, the updated links will point towards items/media that
is outside the site. Everything that you use in the site should be within the
site or link to a URL. In this case a better option would be:
Don't update the links
Copy the folder/files which have the linked data/media into the site folder
such that the relative location of the newly saved page and the copied
folder/file stays the same.
For instance - lets say you have a page "home.htm" in MyDocuments which has
related data/media in a folder "homeMedia" again in My Documents. When you save
home.htm to the site folder called say "website", do not update the links.
But please do copy the folder homeMedia and its contents from MyDocuments to
the site folder "website" . This way your links for home.htm will not get
broken. Otherwise, if you Update the links, all links in your file home.htm
will not link to the MyDocuments\homeMedia folder.
Ideally, you should create every page within the site. This way if you link to
something outside the site, dreamweaver prompts you and asks if a copy should
be saved within the site.
Hope this helps

Re: Update links? Yes or no?
So relativity doesn't come into it as such, it's just that the "update" would
amend the links in that page so that they will still point to their original
target.
In my case however, folder structure has changed, so I'm wanting to reset all
links anyway to the new targets (that are within the new site)
Thanks!!
