    Default Update method error

    I use the following to update:

    Dim rsEdit1
    Set rsEdit1 = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    rsEdit1.ActiveConnection = MM_shop_STRING
    rsEdit1.Source = "SELECT * FROM products WHERE pautoid = 12"
    rsEdit1.CursorType = 2
    rsEdit1.LockType = 3
    rsEdit1.Open()

    rsEdit1.("authorMemo") = "TEST" *Error message from this line
    rsEdit1.update

    rsEdit1.Close()
    Set rsEdit1 = Nothing

    The problem is that I keep getting the following error message :

    "Microsoft VBScript compilation (0x800A03F2) Expected identifier"

    Can anyone help ?

    Don't. It's very inefficient.

    Ken pointed out your error, but I just want to point out that using a SQL
    statement to do your update will be much more efficient, especially if you
    encapsulate it in a stored procedure or saved parameter query depending on
    what your database is*. I will illustrate with dynamic sql for the sake of
    example:

    Dim cn,sSQL
    Set cn=server.createobject("adodb.recordset")
    cn.Open MM_shop_STRING
    sSQL = "UPDATE products SET [authorMemo]='TEST' " & _
    "WHERE pautoid = 12"
    cn.Execute sSQL,,129
    cn.Close
    Set cn=nohing
