Update to 6.1.1 on MacOSX with DWMX on external disc?

Friend of mine with about the same set-up as I have asked me this:

He's been using DWMX istalled on an external disc without any OS (i.e.
not bootable). A couple of days ago, he finally decided to update to
6.1.1, but the update installer doesn't allow him to choose the specific
folder on this external disc.

The default installer dialog window says it will be installed in
"Applications" folder on disc "MacOS", but his DWMX is located on
"Disc2" and the folder is called "Apps". When he hits the button "Select
folder" in the installer's dialog window, the default setting changes
and the update will be installed in the "MacOS" folder on the "Disc2".

But there isn't even a "MacOS" folder in "Disc2".

He and I are both stumped, and I don't have any experience from this
since I'm still on DW4 so I have to ask Mac users here.

Advice, please?

Solved.
As I understand, he selected the external "Disc2" and didn't bother it
said it would install in the non-existing folder "MacOS". He correctly
assumed the installer would seek out the correct files/folders anyway,
which it obviously did.
