Default Upgarded HD in tiPowerBook G4

I just had the best experience ever upgrading the original 30Gb HD to a 80Gb
    HD.

I have been using Powerbook computers as my primary work computer of choice
eversince the Wallstreet came out. Before that I used a 520 notebook as a
secondary computer. I found it necessary to upgrade the size of the HD in
both cases in order to extend the usefulness of the portable computers. My
current Powerbook came with a 30Gb drive. I was within 3 Gb of maxing out my
drive. What to do? It was time to upgrade. Rather than buying a new
computer I decided to simply upgrade the HD to one with more capacity. I
was not looking forward to the upgrade - anticipating lost time reinstalling
programs and recovering backed up files.

This time, however, it was simple. I bought a replacement 80Gb drive, an
external 2.5" HD Firewire drive that is powered from the Powerbook's
Firewire port, and downloaded a copy of CarbonCopy.

I then put the 80Gb drive in the external Firewire case, and used CarbonCopy
to make a complete bootable copy of my internal drive.

Next, I followed the instructions available on the Internet to remove the
bottom of the computer, remove the two torx screws in the battery case,
remove the data cable to the hard drive, and remove the internal drive.

Finally, I removed the 80Gb drive from the external Firewire drive case,
replaced it with the 30Gb drive from the tiPowerbook, and then placed the
80Gb in the Powerbook. Everything went back together with out a hitch. I
then powered up the tiPowerbook and there sat the replacement drive
completely setup and ready to go.

What a wonderful experience. I have upgraded a number of system HDs in the
past always with a tremendous amount of lost time - literally days - getting
the systems back to nearly where they were. This time I had none of that.
The system appears to be just as it was before the upgrade - however - I now
have 50Gb of free drive space.

I bet I get another few years out of the tiPowerbook.

Yep. I've done it just this way on several machines. Be sure to send
some $$ to the Carbon Copy author.

What 80 gig drive did you use?
