upgrade 4.x to 5.1 or 5.2 on 59X Risc6000

I have multiple old servers 591s 595s that are AIX 4.2 or AIX 4.3....

since 4.x will not be supported after Dec 31st, I have to upgrade. has
anyone done it? what were the issues if any?

I don't think those old boxes run 5.2.

You can only upgrade MCA and PReP machines to 5.1.

You should try 5.1 I have just upgraded my model 570(circa 1993
replaced by the 595)to AIX 5.1 All works well.

The AIX 5.1 Power release notes do not prohibit MCA machines. However
the 5.2 release notes say only CHRP (see `bootinfo -p`)and not MCA
boxes.
