upgrade questions - Mac Applications & Software

I am trying to upgrade a beige G3 from OS 8.1 to 9.0 but when I put the CD in I get a message that says simply "cannot upgrade." I KNOW it can be upgraded but I'm a little new at this. Can someone please give me a suggestion to get over this first hurde....

Excellent point. Yes, the CD does say it is for a G4. And therein
    lies the answer.

So, I guess I need an upgrade disc specifically for a G3, or a generic
    9.0 install disc.

Thanks for the info. I'll look around for one.

Yes, the systems CDs that shipped with most Macs are specific to that
model. In addition, in your case the OS 9 installer will likely not run
until you've upgrade your iMac's firmware, and you'll get a message
    telling you this.
