    Default Upgrade to CS?

If we upgrade from InDesign 2.02 to InDesign CS, can we still use Photoshop 7.0, Illustrator 10 and Acrobat 6.0 Professional with it? Or do we need to buy the entire Creative Suite?

According to the Adobe website, it looks like the InDesign upgrade is only $169 while the full upgrade is $699. We have Windows XP.

Should be no problem at all. I can't think of much that you'd lose as
far as ID functionality by working with PS 7.0 and Illy 10.0. You
already have the latest and greatest with Acrobat.

Note that the upgrade to the full CS Standard which includes PS, Illy
    and ID is only $549.00.

    Thank you.

I didn't see the $549 standard upgrade the first time I looked. Are we eligible for that upgrade? Three of us purchased the Adobe Design Collection last year. We didn't even know about CS until I read about it on this forum. It sounds as if InDesign CS opens Quark 4 files easier than 2.02 does.

    Appreciate your help.

If you own Photoshop, you are eligible for upgrade pricing for Creative Suite. It does not matter whether you previously owned InDesign.

Yes, ID CS does open Quark files better than 2.0.2. I had Quark files
the crashed 2.0.2 that opened just fine in CS.

Thanks Jim. We have both Photoshop and InDesign as well as Illustrator and Acrobat. We'll see how much our bosses will let us spend.

When the next upgrades become available, is it usually easier (or cheaper) to upgrade if we already have the Creative Suite? My boss probably will want to buy just the $169 InDesign CS upgrade now unless he thinks buying the Creative Suite will save us money later on.

    Bob & Jim -

Thank you both. I was responding to Jim when Bob's answer came in! We have several years of Quark 4 files so CS should be a lot easier for us. I really appreciate your help because we don't want to make the same mistake we made the first time -- when we didn't even know about CS. We will get InDesign CS for sure and maybe the Creative Suite if our bosses agree.

No one can say what the upgrade options will be with the next release of CS. It was a surprise to many that the current CS upgrade would only upgrade from Photoshop. Since you already have recent versions of Photoshop and Illustrator, upgrading only to IDCS right now makes sense.

I'm glad to know you and Bob both think upgrading only to IDCS will work for us because I have a feeling that's what our supervisors will decide to do. Thanks so much for the information and suggestions.

If I might add one comment...

We've been upgrading to IDCS throughout the department. I wasn't going to
pop for the suite, since it seemed unnecessary for our purposes, but I did
get one suite upgrade (for myself, of course...;-) The 3 apps work
beautifully together, and there are lots of goodies and tutorials as well as
the Pagemaker Plug-in Pack thrown in (we don't use Pagemaker much, but some
of the plugins are quite useful).

For $549 it's a great deal... especially when you figure what Quark is
    asking for QXP 6....
