Upgrading DB2 Satellite Environment - IBM DB2

We have a version 6 Satellite environment. The Control Server is on NT/2000 and the Satellites are NT/2000 laptops. I'm starting to look at upgrading this environment. The version 8 manual indicates that only version 8 Satellites can sync with a version 8 Control Server. Where is the 2 version downlevel support here? The only way I can figure to do this is to setup a separate version 8 Control Server and move the Satellites over one by one as they are upgraded to version 8 Personal Edition. What a pain! Anybody else have some other ideas? Thanks! -- Posted ...

    Good question.
I think the main reason is because the truely supporting of 64bit. DB2 UDB
v8 use different protocol with the previous versions. Which cause some
    problem with the downlevel support.
Think about it. Even for the os, such as AIX, the 64 bit file format used
for AIX5 is different from that used for 64 bit objects in AIX 4.3. 64 bit
executables and libraries built under AIX 4.3 will not work under AIX5.
