    Default Upload with Frontpage Extensions

Hi - I know this has been discussed before?but looking around the forum I?m
still struggling for a definitive answer?

Is it possible to use Contribute with a server that only allows uploading of
files via Frontage Extensions? The server is set up that way because of the
need to use Viual Studio for the coding

I see there is an extension for Dreamweaver that allows upload in this way?
but can Contribute be used for editing the content pages?

    Many thanks

    Peter

The definitive answer is NO (I think!) 8).

Contribute uses FTP to up/download files. FP (when used with server
extensions) uses HTTP to up/download files.

In the case that your site is dependent on FP server extensions, you can
break things by up/downloading with FTP.

In addition, I cannot find anything specifically relevant to FrontPage in
    the CT Help files.

I'm afraid you are out of luck on this one.

Hi Murray - many thanks for your help on this one. Your answer confirms my
    suspicions...

If anyone has a best alternative suggestion to the use of Contribute and at
least some of its functionality when FrontPage extensions have to be used then
I?d be keen to know their thoughts

    Thanks again,

I also need an answer to this -- how to best manage a site in a mixed
    environment.

We are curently using Contribute on an IIS server with FrontPage server
extensions installed. It is working all right, mostly because we have granted
very liberal permissions on the server to the ftp accounts that Contribute is
using. All folder restrictions are managed using Contribute Administration
    settings.

The problem is we have great developers who use Visual Studio -- I don't want
to loose them -- so we enabled FrontPage server extensions. Now the Contribute
users are complaining and all confused because they see the _vti_cnf folders
    that FrontPage creates.

Does anyone know how to hide the _vti_cnf folders (which are created
    dynamically) from Contribute Publishers?
