uploading/replacing pdf files
hi all
now that ive set in website admin (in contribute 3) that all pdf files should
be placed in a /documents/ folder - how the heck do i upload them through
contribute? or replace an existing one for that matter? i can see how to insert
a microsoft document, or embed a pdf as flash paper - but linking to a local
pdf that will get uploaded to the /documents/ folder, hmmmm?!
cheers for any help you can give

Re: uploading/replacing pdf files
When you link to a file on your computer (or network shared drive) a
copy will be uploaded to the server and placed in the folder that you
specified. From what I have seen there is no easy way to batch
upload... but I havn't explored Contribute Publishing Services yet. In
Contribute 3.0 if you upload a copy of the same file, it will not
replace the one on the server, but will instead name it something like
"thefile001.pdf" then "thefile002.pdf" etc... The Contribute 3.1 patch
gives you the option of replacing the file.
So basically, when you create a link, use the "Browse to file on my PC"
and pick it and when you publish, it will automatically upload the
files.

Re: uploading/replacing pdf files
You may have already figured this out, but in case not, go to "Help" and then
to the section "Replacing a file on your website" . So long as your replacement
file has the exact same name as the file you are updating, you don't have to
update anything else on your webpage.

Re: uploading/replacing pdf files
Hi,
I've checked Contribute 3.1 Help for the "Replacing a file on your website"
part. It specifies that i will find the function in the menu under File >
Publish File from My Computer. However, no such menu item is available -
anywhere. What am i missing here?
Thanks,

Re: uploading/replacing pdf files
Hmm, when you launch Contribute 3.1, under the File menu, there is no "Publish File from My Computer" menu item?

Re: uploading/replacing pdf files
Yep. No "Publish File from My Computer" on C 3.1.
I've tried reinstalling the application and updater twice.
It might be a problem related to the PC or OS. Testing on other PCs shows the
'Publish File...' option OK.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
--Abby
