    Default urgent! Layers confusion

I hope someone can help. I teach Photoshop, and the students noticed that their Layer Histograms (for the "Peppers" picture) were different from machine to machine - actually, some students had one histogram, the others had a different one. But it's the same image! Can anyone explain this?

Is colour management turn on on some machines and not on others? I'm guessing that this might have an effect.

Also, are they all updated to 7.0.1?
