Urgent: Opening a CS Tryout(v441) document made version in CS (v460)
Hello.
I just acquired the full version of the Adobe InDesign CS. First thing I wanted to do is to open an old version of an .indd file made with the Tryout version downloaded from the Adobe site.
I get an error: Document Framework.rpln
I get also an indication of updating my plugins to new ones. I did that (to v3.0.1) and now the program crashes (no pulgin error anymore).
Do you know what can I do? It's a pretty important document (an outline of a magazine that needs to be printed in couple of days).
My OS: Win XP
Thank you.

That is typical of the use of a beta version. Where did you buy the

no... I really think that I got the real thing... The CDs are in its original box. I don't think that is the problem. What do you think?

Re: Urgent: Opening a CS Tryout(v441) document made version in CS (v460)
Wait,
you got the right thing. If you bought it new from Amazon, that is. If you bought a used copy, then who knows what you got.
The legitimacy of the files you're trying to read could be the issue.
It should be possible to open files made with the try-out using the latest version of the software. If you cannot, get on to Adobe tech support and tell them you have an installation problem.
If the files you're trying to open came from some other source, then the legitimacy might be in doubt and then it is not an installation problem.

Re: Urgent: Opening a CS Tryout(v441) document made version in CS (v460)
so, it should not be any problem opening a v441 with v460? I asked that because i saw that there was some problemes with the beta version 404 (am I right??).
I tried to contact the guys from Amazon, but I thought that on the ADOBE site I will find a solution quicker.

If I'm not mistaken files created with the demo version cannot be opened> thing I wanted to do is to open an old version of an .indd file made

with the regular version. (Ditto for files created with the beta versions.)
It's pretty important that you never create important production docs
with beta or demo software. Even when the retail version will open those
files there may be features that have been changed or removed, which in
turn may result in significant work to the file once you get it open.

You are wrong. The tryout version creates files that should be fully> with the regular version. (Ditto for files created with the beta versions.)
compatible with the full retail version. You're correct about beta files.

Re: Urgent: Opening a CS Tryout(v441) document made version in CS (v460)
I'm with Bob, but Florian's experience is contrary to our thinking, which is why I recommended contacting Tech Support -- it really doesn't matter what we think so much as what Florian is experiencing.
This issue did come up before, immediately after 3.0.1 was released and I specifically contacted Tech Support on the issue. They were adamant that 3.0.1 can open 3.0 files and the trial copy produces fully functional and compatible 3.0 files.

The Document.Framework message issue has also come up here before. Try a search of the forum on Framework. There might be good advice to be found that. This issue might not actually be related to the 3.0 vs. 3.01 issue but rather some installation problem that has occurred on Florian's machine.

I'm not referring to other demos. Only the ID demo and only what I've
been told. It's fully functional and fully compatible with the retail
version.
That said, obviously there is some type of issue the OP is having.

to use a demo version for a live production project since you just don't
know what you're getting. The demo version *should* be a time-crippled
version of the full version but in reality that is very often not the case.

Does ID now crash no matter what document you are working in... even new documents?
Could remnants of the demo ID be conflicting with the full retail version? You might uninstall all InDesign applications from the 'Add/Remove Programs' control panel. Then go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\ and manually delete any InDesign folders. Finally, reinstall your retail version.
If there is another computer that you can test the installation on, you could see if it is the software or your own system.

Except with the ID CS demo we should know what we're getting. Adobe
claims that the files it produces are exactly the same as the retail
version.

I don't agree at all with that last statement.
There's nothing I've heard of in the agreement that says you can't use
the demo software for any specific purpose.
In fact, I've recommended the PM 7 demo for converting earlier files to
a format compatible with ID as well as converting Publisher files.
