Hi, I'm using the latest dapper release:

2.6.15-22-k7 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun May 7 17:27:47 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

I'm having an odd problem: everything works normally for some time (that
usually ranges from 1 hour to several hours, never has been less than
that). Then, without apparent reasons nor error messages but this one in
the kernel log:

kernel [4299194.587000] usb 4-1: USB disconnect, address 2

the usb devices cease to work. lsusb hangs and cannot be interrupted via
Ctrl-C. A shutdown hangs when the network device is being shut down.

I have not found any solution but rebooting.

This happened to me already in breezy, but I didn't give more importance to
it since by then I was using a wired PCI card and no USB devices except,
rarely, a bluetooth dongle. It is since a week that I've started to use a
usb wireless card and it has become a big hassle.

The output from lsusb when it still works is:

Bus 004 Device 002: ID 14b2:3c22
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

The only device is a rt73 chip based wireless usb. As I said, the problem
would happen too without this device but with a bluetooth dongle. I'll try
when I have the time to see if it happens too without anything attached.

I've found an old post in a redhat list which describes what seems to be the
very same problem, but sadly it got no replies:

Thanks in advance for any ideas,

A. Mosteo.
