user controlled synchronization? - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

Is there such a thing in SQL? I would like to be able to do something like WaitForSingleObject in win32, such that I can execute a sproc and have it wait for an event of some sort to become signaled, and have a sproc executed on a different connection signal that event, thus allowing the first sproc to continue. thanks, thane...

sqlserver supports various kinds of tions that you have fine control
over. you might want to take a look in sql book online for details regarding
    'tion' and 'sql job'.

No there isn't. You would need to use a Mutex or a Named Pipe or something
through an extended stored procedure, COM library or console app and hit the
    Win32 api.
