User Profiles and Contribute Printer Problem
We are having a user profile problem with Macromedia Contribute 3.11 which was
bundled in Studio 8. When a user logs on and runs an office application the
Contibute msi runs and autoconfigures contribute to work with Office including
installing a Flash Paper printer. When the next user logs on the same thing
happens again and we get a second printer called "Macromedia FlashPaper (Copy
1)" which hangs when you print to it. Every new user that logs on adds another
printer.
Once the user has logged on and ran office with contribute once, their profile
is somehow updated so that the printer is not added again. Unfortunately we
have 100+ users that will be using office with contribute so this problem has
forced us to remove contribute until it is resolved.
We have tried using Admin accounts which have full permissions to the program
and the problem persists. We are running Windows XPSP2 machines in a 2003
Active Directory environment. Any help would be most appreciated.

Re: User Profiles and Contribute Printer Problem
Macromedia support have just contacted me and admitted that the problem exists.
Anyone using Contribute in a network environment needs to be aware of this
issue. There are 2 workarounds.
A) Update and enforce a mandatory profile. Once the contribute configuration
is run and added to the mandatory profile it will not be configured again and
the extra printers won't be installed
B) Using a logon/startup registry script to remove the extra printers from the
registry. When the computer is rebooted they will be gone. Of course you may
need to remove more than one printer such as "Macromedia FlashPaper (Copy 1)"
(Copy2), etc depending on how many users logon before a reboot.
