Using Contribute for intranet. Huge issue with externallinked files
I'm looking like an idiot on this one. I built a intranet site for a client,
and one person is using Dreamweaver, and 2 others are using Contribute.
There are a bunch of .doc and .pdf files sitting in various locations on the
network. When I link to them in Dreamweaver, I get a popup upon uploading
asking if I want to copy the file in question to the server, or not. I simply
choose "NO", and when I click the link in a browser, the file in the real
location opens just fine.
HOWEVER, and this is huge, if someone then opens the page in Contribute, makes
a change anywhere at all, and publishes it automatically copies every file
referenced in an external link to the server.
This couldn't be more wrong behaviour and totally defeats the entire
functionality of Contribute in a workflow such as an intranet.
Since contribute does not give the nice pop up window asking "do you want to
copy the file to your server", what can I do? I'm in big trouble here if I
can't get this to work. I have used Contribute on many sites, but they were all
regular web sites and I copied files to the server anyway. But in this case I
can't, as every single person responsible for editing these various .doc and
..xl files would then have to be taught how to upload files and that's not going
to happen.
HELP!!!!
