Using envelope on text changes its colour

Default Using envelope on text changes its colour

    I'm working in CMYK mode.

I have a word of text, in brown. I apply an envelope warp to it from the object menu. Its visible colour changes to black (although it still uses the brown swatch). This does not seem to happen with other colours, or with a mesh warp.

Please help me - I think I'm going mad! What's going on?

    many thanks,

    Julz:

I can't reproduce that on my end with AI CS. You may need to give us more details:

    Version of Illustrator
Windows color mode (16, 24, 32 bit, etc.)
    Video card
    etc.

Question: what happens to the document if you change the color mode to RGB and then back to CMYK?

I'm using AI CS in 32-bit colour. I'll give more details when I'm back at work tomorrow. Julz

    Julian,

If your CRT monitor is calibrated with Adobe Gamma, and you still get this brown to black (and you can still see normal brown with other images), then try deleting AIPrefs file (the catch all first thing to try) and see if that corrects thing. How does it print? Could this be a video card thing or monitor thing?

    John,
I have had similar things happen. Here's my fix - Object>ungroup, now you
should be able to change the color to whatever you want and it will match
    the fill swatch.
    Hope that works for you..........Rick
