Using Flash Player on my website
For years I have been using short 2-3 minute Quicktime movies on my website,
but the screen is small and it takes a long time to load. I would like to be
able to play these Quicktime movies on the Flash Player. How do I do this.

Re: Using Flash Player on my website
QuickTime Pro will allow you to export as a FLV. Do you have Flash 8 or CS3?

Re: Using Flash Player on my website
I don't have Flash 8 or CS3. I thought I had Quicktime Pro, but when I look at
my Applications on my Mac, all I see is Quicktime Player. I dimly remember
buying Pro and that it is on my machine, but not a stand alone app I can see.
When I use my Player and Export, there is no FLV option.

Re: Using Flash Player on my website
QT PRO isn't a 'standalone'.. All it does is 'unlock' the hidden features of
the QuickTime Player..
The easy way to tell is this.. open an MOV.. if you can SAVE that content, you
have QT Pro. Then check the registration section of the player.. if you have
it serialized with Pro it'll say so.
So the point Darren was trying to make is that without the Flash authoring
tool (or Dreamweaver or some similar tool) you'lll need to use QuickTime to
make FLV out of your MOV's.. then you'll need some Flash Player SWF that you
can plug them into to play. There are quite a number of other developers
who've made such SWF's available for download..

Re: Using Flash Player on my website
Bently --
Thanks for your help. I was able to save the Quicktime. But I don't really
know what you mean by check the Registration section of the Player. In pulling
up "About QuickTime Player", all I see is about the player, and nothing about
Pro. How do I serialize my Player with Pro if I have it?. It says nothing now.
I called Apple to try and tell me what you have mentioned, but they would not
give me any help without a service contract.
As I mentioned, if I currently try to Export my .mov, I do not see a SLV
0ption available which made my think that I do not have Pro.
Then I will need to download a SWF player. You mention a number of companies.
Can you help me there?

Re: Using Flash Player on my website
Hi jmore007,
Open system preferences and select Quicktime. You should see a Register Tab with a Registration Code and it will tell you if it is QuickTime Pro.

Re: Using Flash Player on my website
Darren, Bently, Anyone --
I have checked Quicktime Preferences and I DO have Quicktime Pro, but I still
do not see any way to convert my Quicktime.mov to a SLV. That option is just
not showing when I pull down export. How can I do this?

Re: Using Flash Player on my website
The Flash video file format is called, ".FLV"
You can use Flash or the Flash Video Encoder to convert QuickTime movies to
FLV format. If Flash is installed and you have QuickTime Pro you will also have
options to convert to .FLV from QT Pro.
Adobe CS3 Photoshop, After Effects and Premier will also allow you to convert
to FLV format.
As far as 3rd party programs, you may want to check out Sorenson:
