Using modifier keys in the Layer palette = problems!

Default Using modifier keys in the Layer palette = problems!

In pre-CS AI I'm sure I used to be able to use the modifier keys in the layer palette's sub-layers to turn on/off all other layers except the target with the option or command key (can't remember which now...) but at the moment these keys are having no effect; the lock symbol is appearing as if a normal click is being performed.

Is this linked to the current issues with alt/option/command keys and the OS, or was it a figment of my imagination?

Option-clicking on the visibility icon of a sublayer makes everything in my document invisible except that sublayer.

Not quite, Doug. I've been complaining about this since AI 10. This feature worked correctly in AI8. But with the introduction of nested layers, using the modifier keys in the Layers palette got messed up. It still works as it did in AI8, but only on top-level layers.

Make a couple of rectangles on each of several layers. Expand one of the layers and Option-click on one of the rectangles' visibility icon.

Gary, I'm glad I didn't imagine it. You're right, though, it does only affect top-levels. I had no problems with the rectangle excercise so it must be the nested-layers issue. Do you know if there's any way around this use of layers?

Depending on the complexity of the file and the need for turning sublayers on or off, I either drag down the column of visibility icons, or rearrange my sublayers into more toplevel layers - something difficult to do if you clipping paths.
