    Default VARCHAR size increase in a table

    Hi,
    I have the following table:
    Table A
    (
    a BIGINT NOT NULL , b BIGINT ,
    c TIMESTAMP NOT NULL , d TIMESTAMP WITH DEFAULT CURRENT TIMESTAMP ,
    e VARCHAR(4000) NOT NULL , g VARCHAR(4000) ,
    h BIGINT NOT NULL , i VARCHAR(4000) NOT NULL ,
    j BIGINT NOT NULL , k VARCHAR(4000) ,
    l VARCHAR(4000) , m VARCHAR(4000) ,
    n VARCHAR(4000) , o DECIMAL(20,6) ,
    q TIMESTAMP , r TIMESTAMP ,
    t VARCHAR(4440)
    )
    whenever I try to increase the size of "t" (increase above 4440), I
    get an error saying that the table size has been extended. My
    bufferpool and tablespace scripts are:
    CREATE BUFFERPOOL "BP" SIZE 40000 PAGESIZE 32768 NOT EXTENDED
    STORAGE;
    CREATE REGULAR TABLESPACE IMDCTS IN DATABASE PARTITION GROUP
    IBMDEFAULTGROUP PAGESIZE 32768 MANAGED BY DATABASE
    USING (FILE '/dbms/data_files/TRENDS/containers/imdccont2'163840)
    EXTENTSIZE 32
    PREFETCHSIZE 32
    BUFFERPOOL IMDCBP1
    OVERHEAD 10.500000
    TRANSFERRATE 0.330000;
    Can anyone help? Thanks

    You should be able to widen T to 4551 bytes (I was able to using your
    DDL). Note that you need to create the tablespace in bufferpool BP (your
    DDL places the tablespace in bufferpool IMDCBP1).

    The tablespace is actully in BP.
    Is there anyway I can increase the size a lot more that 4551?
    Thanks

    No, as that would make the row width wider than 32768. You could create
    a second table and use a join, as long as you omitted some columns from
    each table in the SELECT STATEMENT. Or, consider adding a CLOB COLUMN.
