Default Variables Palette Fails To Update

    1. TypeTool: Click to create a PointType object. Key in “Set 1 Val 1”.
Create another PointType object to read “Set 1 Val 2”.
Create another PointType object to read “Set 1 Val 3”.

    2. Select the first PointType object. Variables Palette: Click the Make Text Dynamic button.
Select the second PointType object. Variables Palette: Click the Make Text Dynamic button.
Select the third PointType object. Variables Palette: Click the Make Text Dynamic button.

    3. Variables Palette: Click the Capture Data Set button. A DataSet is created, named “Data Set 1”.

    4. Edit the text of all three PointType objects to read “Set 2” instead of “Set 1”.

    5. Variables Palette: Click the Capture Data Set button. A DataSet is created, named “Data Set 2”.

    6. Variables Palette: Click the Previous Data Set or Next Data Set button. The name of the Data Set shown in the popup changes; and the contents of the text objects change as they should. But the values shown in the Objects column of the Variables Palette do not update. To get them to update, you have to select or deselect one of the listings. Causing one to update does not always cause the others to update.

What is wrong with the above procedure? Shouldn’t the palette always show the Object values of the Data Set presently selected in the Data Set popup menu?

Default Re: Variables Palette Fails To Update

It's a Refresh issue and I would call it a bug. To update all names of the bound objects you could also click on the Variables or Objects Tab or on the unnamed Tab right below the Camera icon. Or, after you have jumped to the next or previous data set, you can select the three text objects on the artboard and wait one or two seconds, the object column will then be updated. Or click the Next/Previous Data Set button while all Variable rows are selected in the Variables Palette, then click anywhere on the inner area within the Palette to deselect the Variable rows.

Another Refresh/Update issue occurs when you import a Variable Library, then create variables out of existing objects on the artboard, then click the Next/Previous Data Set button. Nothing happens until you once select a data set in the drop down menu. After that you can use the buttons again.

Thanks for the confirmation, Kurt. I've found the same workarounds, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't something on my system, or caused by the script I'm working on.
