varnish vs laminnation
Hello
I am doing a pockit folder .
I am not sure what to do . Shuld I do a glossy varnish on it
or plastik laminnation?
I need something strong but very nice and shiny looking.
WIll the laminnation be cheap looking?
It is quite a bit less $$ then the glossy varnish.
Ideas?

Now do you add a Varnish?
I am newish with Indesign Since moving from Quark. I am doing a job that needs a Varnish added to the pictures in the Brochure. How would you do... -

Re: varnish vs laminnation
In my opinion, go with the lamination. I think it's shinier than varnish. It appears to be more sturdy, to me anyway. It should in no way be cheap looking, but I guess it would depend on your printer.

Re: varnish vs laminnation
The lamination will be sturdier and look better why it is less money I don't really know hat has never been my experience. Anyway the varnish will only protect for a very short time.
Even liquid lamination would last longer than varnish.

Re: varnish vs laminnation
Our guys don't like to use varnish because they say it's so hard to clean off the press. So, I hear we don't even offer it anymore. Maybe the cleanup is a partial reason for the cost?

Re: varnish vs laminnation
have you thought about trying aqeous coating? It's classier looking than thick shiny cheap looking laminate, yet it serves the same purpose.

Re: varnish vs laminnation
I agree properly done lamination is a thing of beauty! And for the purpose they are using it for it would seem the proper choice and aqeous coating is as far as I know is liquid lamination and will not last as long in my experience.

Re: varnish vs laminnation
Hello
thanks for all the ansers
Yes I spoke with the printer and he asures me that laminate is best way because its strong and shiiny.
I have never seen laminate before other then in highschol when we'd go to staples or something like it and have those big brissle bords laminnated. I assume its totaly difference prosess because those bords came back with texturizzed plastic which exseeded the end of the bord by half an inch. THAT is what I had in mind when I heard of laminnation so I was afraid to use it. But I see here that its a totaly diferent prosess.
The only thing I cant figur out is why if its realy eligant and classy why is it more cheap then varnish. unless it IS just a questions of cleaning up time.
thank u

Re: varnish vs laminnation
Hello
I just find out why its less $$$ to laminnate.
It is due to the varnish being considered as a 5th color. and the 4color press has high hourly rate. Laminnate machine is cheaper hourly.
Good to know!
thanks'
