Vector logos display poorly in PDF
Hi, smart Acrobat users...
I design a lot of jobs that, besides printing, also get posted to the client's website as downloadable PDF files. I'm really frustrated that my EPS placed logos (the CLIENT's logo) looks terrible in the PDF files. I realize these will print perfectly, however I'm interested in knowing what file format I can resave them in, from Illustrator, to make them display better in my PDFs. Once again, this is a display issue, not a final printed product issue. I want the client's logo to look good when someone opens the document.
I'm slightly confused because part of the logo looks pixellated and part of it looks OK, and here's the kicker -- BOTH parts use outline fonts. So this is another mystery. I'm using Acrobat 6.0.2 and exporting from InDesign CS. The logos in question are created in Illustrator CS and placed as EPS files.
THANK YOU!!!

Re: Vector logos display poorly in PDF
For online use, never use outline fonts. Use real, embedded fonts. The
very few reasons for still using outline fonts only apply to print
material.

Re: Vector logos display poorly in PDF
OK, but some of the logos provided by other sources use outline fonts; I can't get the originals. What then? Is there another format to save to from Illustrator that will display better in PDF? I ask this because someone sent a GIF file which I obviously can't use for printing, but it displayed beautifully in a PDF!! GIF is not an export option in Illustrator. (Maybe I should ask in the Illustrator forum...)

Re: Vector logos display poorly in PDF
Illustrator can export various bitmap formats; GIF is not a good
choice, but TIFF is ok.
You can also open PDF in Photoshop.
Bear in mind that a scaled bitmap logo may look even worse.

Once again, this is a display issue, not a final printed product issue.
Perhaps there is a display setting in the preferences of Reader that would allow you to display smooth art. :)
