Vectors Cast
I'm having some trouble making a cast member with vectors. The thing is, I want to make a copy of this logo I have as a vector cast member. Is there a way I can trace over the GIF image I have of the logo to create the vector, or do I have to persist with my current method of eye-balling it.
Of can I import it into Director from say, Adobe Illustrator?

Re: Vectors Cast
Hi,
Whenever we need to trace a logo we use flash and then just import that. It works great for scaling to whatever size you need.
Sorry, I don't know of a method of importing with illustrator. Hopefully someone that reads this might have a solution for you on importing an illustrator verison.
Hope this helps you out.

Re: Vectors Cast
Thanks dude! Maybe I'll just use Flash to make my vector logo. How do I go about "tracing" it in Flash?

Re: Vectors Cast
Hi again,
I just make to layers in frame one.
On the bottom layer I put the logo I am going to trace then I lock the layer.
First I usually go through and outline it all first so I can get all my outlines right on.
Then I go through and fill after that.
Then just delete out the layer with the old logo and also get rid of the logo from the library.
Save and Export.
Thats all there is to it.

Re: Vectors Cast
A couple more things about Flash "still" art:
- for precision stuff, forget autotrace. Use the pen tool. For hand-done art
(cartoons), scan your art and save as a true bitmap (b/w, not grayscale) at
low rez (72 ppi) for smoothest tracing with fewest nodes.
- Unlike autotrace in FH or Illustrator, the outlines don't have to be
perfectly closed in Flash to use the paintbucket to fill them! This can save
you HOURS on some art.
- Export as a 1frame Flash movie (.swf), not JPG or other. All alpha tints
in Flash work in Director, even soft-edged shadows!
- Work on a plain background in Flash, then use ink Transparent Background
in Director to get a perfect knockout.
- Precision tools in FreeHand are even better than Flash on some things
(lenses, compound paths, paste-inside, 3D, extrusions...), and then you open
your file in Flash and export as a 1 frame movie. (for some reason I forget,
exporting the .swf straight from FH to Dir didn't work as well).
- You can open a later version FH file in a later version Flash and maintain
layers!
- All vector work is awesomely scalable!
