Vectorworks into SW3D
Hi does anyone know how to get a vectorworks model into shockwave (with the
colours.)
I can export to DXF, DWG,IGS etc. but they all lose their textures when I
bring them into Max (which I use to export them into SW3D format.)
Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

Re: Vectorworks into SW3D
Can you export to the OBJ format with an MTL file ?
If so, you can use the 3D Speed port Xtra in Director or better yet, use 3DS
Max to import the .OBJ / .MTL and export in to the Shockwave 3D format.
The MTL file (for material) defines all the surface color and textures of
the scene (UV mapping).
The MTL file is either of the same name as the OBJ one and placed in the
same folder:
/filename.obj
/filename.mtl
Or the .OBJ points to a MTL file of another name which can also be placed in
another folder.
The OBJ format is widespread and compatible with many 3D packages.
Personnaly, in my projects, I did not use the 3D Speed port Xtra but rather
a 3DS Max batch (with max script) to convert a number of .OBJ files to the
W3D format.
Karl.
