Verity Categories - Coldfusion - Advanced Techniques

Hello Everyone, I've found articles online about ColdFusion MX and Verity that have been informative but there is a lot of details missing in these articles. Here are some questions that I've asked myself during my research: 1. Can you add a category to a collection using the administrative page? (I don't see this availablity) 2. Can you remove categories from collections? 3. How do you list out the categories that exist for a collection with maybe a <cfoutput>? 4. How do you populate a drop down with the categories so that you can add it to your search page? ...

    Default Verity Categories

    Hello Everyone,

I've found articles online about ColdFusion MX and Verity that have been
informative but there is a lot of details missing in these articles. Here are
some questions that I've asked myself during my research:

    1. Can you add a category to a collection using the administrative page? (I
    don't see this availablity)
    2. Can you remove categories from collections?
    3. How do you list out the categories that exist for a collection with maybe a
    <cfoutput>?
    4. How do you populate a drop down with the categories so that you can add it
    to your search page?
    5. Can you use the category attribute in a cfsearch without a categoryTree
    attribute?

I'll probably think of other questions later.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by "category". Category is not an attribute of CFCOLLECTION or of CFINDEX. Can you clear this up for me?

If you need a lesson on categories then you should read this article. It gets
into categories at the end. It's the most informative I've found, but still is
missing some key information that I'm asking about in my original post.

    Howdy!

Unfortunately I don't have any answers to questions. Instead I have one of my
own - do you know of any other articles concerning how to work with the
categories features? The examples in the article you mention all use the
action="UPDATE" and type="file" attributes which to me implies that there's a
form page where someone selects a category and then uploads a file. I'm more
interested in what do I do with existing folders full of files? I'm assuming
that the folders would have to be organized into a meaningfull structure..

    Thx
