I'm running an application with 40 verity collections on a shared server. My
webhost tells me that these collections are using 270 MB of physical memory on
the server and asked me to reduce this load. They referred me to
http://www.cfcentral.com.au/cfaussiePosts.cfm?discussion=Verity%20K2%20server% 20
in%20CF7 which says you should have at least 10MB of physical memory available
for each verity collection on a server, regardless of how much data and files
are actually indexed in each collection. (There isn't much in any of my 40
collections.) Is this accurate? I've read the other posts on this forum about
verity's memory usage but I haven't seen much in the way of a solution. The
server is already running CF MX 7 updater 2. Can you tell me how many verity
collections I can reasonably expect to run on a single CF server?
(Specifically, how many on a standard, and how many on an enterprise?) I need
to determine whether I must redesign my app to use fewer collections. It seems
even a dedicated server would quickly become overwhelmed by the collections,
since the app as presently designed will need more collections down the road.
If you really do need 10MB of memory per collection, it should say so in the CF
documentation -- would have saved me a lot of trouble had I known that before I
designed the app.
