    I have a similar issue on my server.

    What I found was everything worked fine when I first indexed my collection. As
    soon as I ran an 'update' things started working incorrectly, categories
    wouldn't search (if I specified a category I would get no records back, but
    with no category specified I would get all categories without any problem).

    I was able to Stop and Restart the 'ColdFusion MX 7 Search Server' service and
    now things seem to work correctly, I have even been able to run 'Purge' and
    'Update' with categoires continuing to work.

    This does worry me however that it may sometime just fail again. So if anyone
    has any insight into this please let us know.

    I have found out a little more information.

    It appears that anytime the categories change they fail to work. Only the
    preexisting ones will show up.

    Since restarting the service fixed it the last time I attempted that again. I
    still don't have any categories reported by executing: <cfcollection
    action="CategoryList" collection="MyCollection" name="info"> and any search
    with categories returns no records. If I remove the categories from the
    cfsearch it returns what I would expect.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks
