Vertical lines in AI graphics PDF as broken lines?
I have an InDesign CS1 doc that has an Illustrator CS1 EPS file placed in it. The graphic is a barcode for a coupon. It is only many vertical lines, in black.
I postscript the page, and Distill it (with both v6 and v7). The final PDF has the vertical lines now broken into multiple vertical dashes. In other words, instead of each line being 1 inch tall, now there are 4 of 1/7 inch bars with 3 spaces of 1/7 white space, like every bar is a dashed line.
This isn't the first time I've seen only vertical lines broken up randomly.
If I rasterize the PS file in Photoshop the lines are intact.
If I cut the lines in Illy into 2 using the knife tool, then the PS/PDF will be OK. But I can't use that as a viable option to modify artwork like this all the time.
What is happening here?
I can email a pic or PDF/ID/ai file if you (Adobe?) can help.

Re: Vertical lines in AI graphics PDF as broken lines?
Hello SuperMacGuy
This is a bug in the PDF-Renderer of CS1. Unfortunately you also receive these dashes when you generate a new PDF out of it - in this case the lines are really *converted* to dashes and the PDF is broken. It has to do with an internal optimisation Adobe is doing with the implemented PDF library. Try to change the object order of these lines (rearrange them to be the front most objects).
This bug is fixed in CS2 (be aware that the same PDF Renderer is also used in Acrobat 6 and in some PDF Workflows out on the market like TrueFlow 2 that also renders the lines as dashes)
