Viability of Powerbook 3400c Questions for the Old Pros. - Mac Applications & Software

Q & A with someone at MCE - they are the ones that mysteriously activate
the Cardbus feature hiding inside the 3400. Having the Cardbus activated
PCM card slot will allow you the ability to use USB and FireWire
adapters, which of course, are all subject to varying amounts of
usability and success...maybe xlr8yourmac.com has a database to see any
success / failures of the Cardbussed 3400 with what OS system with what
    adaptor card.

It sure s when you have perfectly working gear and no effective way
to interface it with modern day tools.

....like my UMAX SCSI scanner, my Mac serial Epson printer, my SCSI CD
burners, my Apple GeoPort boxes, etc. etc.

I tried loading Yellow Dog Linux on my 3400 and no wonder Apple doesn't
recommend OS X on the 3400. Yellow Dog was dog slow, but it broadband
    networked however.

Good luck and let us know how it all works.

I'm just about ready to buy a used 3400 cheap and was searching the
web and found this interesting article.
    http://www.wwc.edu/~frohro/Cardbus/Cardbus.html
"..In other words, the 3400c is already cardbus compliant..."

I haven't got the the 3400 yet, but the above site might have the
    asnwer.

The 3400 is "Almost" Cardbus compliant. It has a Cardbus compliant
chipset, but DOESN'T have a Cardbus Compliant Cage. MCE does a
conversion, where they change the Cage to a compliant version for $99US.
some Cardbus PCMCIA cards work in the factory cage and some don't.
I use a MacAlly USB CardBus card to get USB on my 3400, and it works
    in a Factory Cage.
